Famous Columbia Sloop MAGIC LAMP II

50' Custom Columbia Sloop

T
his popular boat has been featured in over 20 of Magic Lamp's
nautical videos, being sold all over the world for the past 13 years. When Gene Grossman heard that Columbia Yachts had sold the molds for their 50 and 52-foot sloops, he contacted the new owners and made arrangements to build the "Magic Lamp II."

The most remarkable feature of this vessel is that it capitalizes on
Bill Tripp's fantastic hull design of the 50-footer and also uses the
deck from the 52-footer, thereby giving this boat an aft stateroom.
Your next question probably is "how did they do that?"
Actually, it was quite easy to put the 52's deck on the 50's hull,
because both boats were 50' on deck. The 52-footer picked up
its extra 2 feet with a protruding reverse transom.

Gene designed the spacious interior which includes a small
diesel fireplace that uses a hidden coil to heat water for the
forward shower. The rest of the belowdecks area is finished
in a warm highly varnished teak and mahogany, with plenty of
decoration, including wine rack. The boat was commissioned in 1985.

Over $130,000 was spent in construction, including an extra
1,400 pounds of fiberglass to reinforce the hull and deck. The engine (currently with stuck piston) is a 50-hp Pathfinder,
which is really a marinized version of the VW Rabbit Diesel,
so most parts are easily available in just about any auto parts
place in the world.

The boat has had its entire topsides (deck and cockpit) completely
awlgripped and the interior re-finished and is now being
offered for sale with your choice of new engine,
for only $99,000, or "as-is" for $84,500.
In addition, an 8-minute video
takes you on a "tour"
of the exterior and interior of the boat.

Please email Gene if you have any further questions
or would like to obtain a copy of the video.

The boat is now in its slip and available for your inspection in
Marina del Rey, California.
